Disaster Relief Fund next round now open
Community groups delivering support services for bushfire impacted people in the Bega Valley Shire will soon be able to apply for funding under Bega Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund.
Round three of the Bega Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund is aimed at reducing anxiety and stress for those impacted during the summer bushfires.

Community groups delivering support services for bushfire impacted people in the Bega Valley Shire will soon be able to apply for funding under Bega Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund.
Applications for round three of the fund are now open, focusing on the delivery of mental health projects, programs and events.
Bega Valley Shire Mayor, Russell Fitzpatrick said the third round of the perpetual fund will allow for targeted delivery of programs for people needing help to recover.
“While rounds one and two focused on providing financial assistance directly to people impacted by the summer bushfires, round three will see funding being used to deliver services by experts in supporting the community’s mental well-being,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.
“Community groups with specific projects or events that can alleviate anxiety and stress for people who are struggling, are encouraged to apply.
“Grants of up to $10,000 are available for each program, adding to the $198,000 already delivered in previous rounds.
“The fact that this perpetual fund is still in the position to give help where it is needed, and still maintain a healthy balance for future rounds, shows the depth of goodwill offered by people in the Shire and from far afield. It is very encouraging.
“We are proud to be partnering with the Social Justice Advocates of the Far South Coast and independent community representatives to ensure we are delivering a fund that achieves the best possible results.”
Bega Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund Co Chair, Mick Brosnan said the latest round marks the next step on the path to recovery.
“While our immediate concerns for rounds one and two were to help people suffering financial hardships following the summer bushfires, we are now looking towards helping people left with the emotional scars of living through a traumatic event,” Mr Brosnan said.
“This is a vital step and is once again evidence of people and organisations working closely to recover as a community.
“While this latest round is only open to incorporated or auspiced community groups, it is important to remember that every dollar will be going to help individuals requiring help in these challenging times.”
Applications for Round Three of the Bega Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund are now open. Projects, programs and events must be completed or delivered by 31 March 2021.
