If you’re a Bega Valley Shire ratepayer, you can expect to receive your annual rates notice from late-July each year, via post or email. If you are paying by instalment this annual notice is also your 1st Instalment notice.

If you are paying your annual rates in full, they must be paid by 31st August. Interest is charged on any overdue amount.

Each year the NSW State Government through the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) approves a maximum percentage increase in the total income a council can receive from rates, thereby limiting the amount of income a council can raise via general rates.
Council rates are exempt from goods and services tax (GST).

The NSW Valuer General oversees the land valuation system and values all parcels of land in NSW. This is not a function of Council.
