As the end of March approaches, so does the end of another outdoor pool season in the Bega Valley.
Our outdoor pools will close on Sunday 30 March, with the exception of Bega War Memorial Pool which closed earlier due to a pump failure, which after further investigation, needs replacing.
The Sapphire Aquatic Centre in Pambula will continue to operate all year.
“It’s been a busy season and the community has made the most out of the fantastic summer weather,” Council’s Aquatic and Leisure Facilities Coordinator, Nicholas Hoynes said.
“With so many people enjoying our pools, there has also been great support for our pool’s programs and local swimming clubs across the shire.”
The season also saw Council commencing direct operation of the Bega War Memorial Pool.
“It has been an interesting transition with additional challenges for recruiting staff and delivering programs across our pools,” Mr Hoynes said.
“We thank our members, visitors, schools and community for their patience, and for working with us in the interim.”
Mr Hoynes said Council also welcomed Swimming Coach, Bobson Mansaray, who moved up from Melbourne midway through the season.
“Bob has been based at Bega Pool this season and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, both locally and internationally, to our squad programs,” he said.
“Over the cooler months, Bob will join the team and programs based at the Sapphire Aquatic Centre, including the re-commencement of morning squad training.
“We are looking forward to making a bigger splash next season and will have many opportunities for interested people to contribute. Please keep an eye out on our websites and socials for updates.”
Over the coming months, Council will work with industry training providers to bring more training courses to the Bega Valley, pursue funding for eligible participants, and undertake planning and recruitment in preparation for next season.
