Eden’s Davidson Place is set for a major upgrade thanks to funding through the federal government’s Drought Communities Program.
The planned work includes the installation of a picnic shelter, new picnic tables, disabled access path to the toilet, vegetation removal, hardwood bollards, re-turfing, and an LED street light.
Bega Valley Shire Council’s Project Manager, Sean Howle, said along with rejuvenating the prominent site, the project will also bring some economic benefits to the district.
“We are very excited the community will soon be able enjoy a more user friendly and safer space, with the accessibility upgrades of particular note,” Mr Howle said.
“The use of local suppliers and contractors will also provide a timely boost as the impacts of COVID-19 continue to be felt and bushfire recovery continues in earnest.
“The choice of materials also promises to reduce the maintenance burden on Council’s town teams.”
Due to the nature of the project and the location of the work site, some changed traffic conditions will be necessary.
Access to Imlay Street from Chandos Street (at Davidson Place) will be closed to traffic and pedestrians from Monday 9 November to Friday 13 November, between 7am and 4pm (weather permitting). Traffic access to Imlay Street will be via Strickland Avenue and Bass Street (detour signs will be in place).
The project team will inform businesses and residents in the vicinity.
