Recognising the importance of developing local student’s skills and abilities, Bega Valley Shire Council is calling for nominations for this year’s round of Further Education Scholarships for students.
This annual scholarship program supports young people seeking professional qualifications and careers while living in the Bega Valley.
Five grants valued at $1,000 each will be awarded.
“We want to encourage students to consider local further education options, whether it be university or vocational study, instead of thinking they have to leave the Shire to pursue a career,” Council’s Community Connections Manager, Anne Cleverley said.
“Our Further Education Scholarships program is one way we can help our young people reach their goals here in the Bega Valley.”
Council will award Further Education Scholarships to students:
Last year’s scholarship awardees completed diverse courses: Bachelors of Arts and Nursing (University of Wollongong Bega Campus), Bachelor of Childhood and Primary Education (University of New England), Certificate IV in Education Support (Canberra Institute of Technology) and Certificate IV in Agriculture (Bega Tafe).
Single parent, Tamika Gaudie was working part-time as an Aboriginal education worker with Lumen Christi Catholic College while completing her Certificate IV in Education Support at CIT last year.
“The Further Education Scholarship was so beneficial and played a big part in helping me achieve my goal,” Ms Gaudie said.
“As a young Indigenous woman, I am finding my place within our community and I now have plans to go back to study my Diploma of Early Childcare.”
Applications close Monday 1 March 2021.
