Stories of change - Saarinen Organics

Saarinen Organics shows how a family's passion and resilience can drive meaningful change in the skincare industry.

At the foothills of Pambula surrounded by gorgeous forests and the stunning backdrop of the Jingera rockface is Wyndham, home to Saarinen Organics.

Saarinen Organics is not just a business, it’s a family’s dream turned reality. Founded by Kay Saarinen, her husband and teenage daughter, the company embodies a passion for creating an eco-sustainable lifestyle and income. Located on a thriving permaculture farm, the company produces eco-sustainable skincare using herbs grown on-site and processed in a purpose-built lab located on the property.

“We're living and breathing this. We've got such a story to tell that we love sharing it with people.”

The farm is a testament to Saarinen Organics unwavering commitment to sustainability. It features a strawbale home operating on standalone solar-powered energy, a clear demonstration of their eco-friendly practices. The herbs used in their products are grown through certified organic methods. These herbs are then harvested and processed into Saarinen Organics’ skincare products, which are not only nourishing for the skin but also gentle on the environment. 

“There's nothing like being here, taking in the smells, tasting the fresh produce, and witnessing how we do things authentically. No greenwashing here.”

 

Saarinen Organics also attribute their success to the substantial support received from organisations such as ORICoop, which provides grants and networking opportunities for certified organic growers, and mentoring through the Australian Government’s Entrepreneurs’ Programme.

“It turned out to be the best phone call I ever made because it just provided us so much support.”

Looking ahead, Saarinen Organics plans to further enhance its sustainability efforts by eliminating plastic labels and using branded bamboo materials instead. This commitment to sustainability reflects the core value of the business; dedication to environmental stewardship.
