Recycling Technologies Group received post-bushfire development grants to expand its waste wood fibre processing business.
In the heart of the Bega Valley, nestled in the pristine surroundings of hardwood forests, Recycling Technologies Group (RTG) have been on a remarkable journey.
With a profound passion for circularity and waste reduction, RTG works to maximise the use of every fibre of wood to ensure nothing is wasted.goes to waste. The story of RTG is one of resilience, innovation , and a commitment to sustainability.
"It’s giving a second chance at life, and solving the environmental challenge of replacing fossil fuels"
Recycling Technologies Group (RTG) is an energy equipment and solutions business that takes wood fibre waste from other manufacturers that no longer hold economic value and transforms it into a high-value wood fibre product to give it a second life.
RTG's primary product is its red-hot wood heating pellets, followed by smoking pellets designed specifically for food smoking (such as meat). The demand for their products has surged in recent years resulting in national distribution across Australia.
The impact of the Black Summer bushfires and COVID-19 pandemic on RTG was significant. The Supply chain disruptions and travel restrictions made it difficult for the business to operate normally. However, RTG’s decision to upgrade the pellet plant just before the pandemic hit proved a wise move that allowed them to keep running and keep the local community employed.
Situated in a bushfire-affected area, RTG was one of the recipients of post-bushfire development grants for regional areas. This support played a crucial role in revitalising the business and not only aided in its recovery but also supported innovation and expansion.
"We're grateful for the government's recognition and support of our innovative approach towards making a positive impact on our community and the environment"
RTG's passion for their product and community is at the core of their success. Customers are welcomed into the facility where they can witness the entire process and connect with RTG's family-oriented ethos.
"My unwavering passion for wood fibre, coupled with an exceptional team that shares that same drive, is what keeps me motivated"
In the future, RTG plans to add more value to wood fibre. They aim to transform their white pellets into black pellets through a carbonisation process, which has promising applications in soil conditioning and steel making. This innovation aligns with RTG's commitment to sustainability and resource optimisation.
RTG's commitment to sustainability and innovative approach demonstrate their potential for economic and environmental transformation. By converting wood waste into valuable products and continuously seeking new solutions, RTG embodies resilience and sustainability, making a positive impact on both the community and the environment.
