A to Z Recycling guide - test area from pagemind

Find out what you can put in what bin. Using the right disposal method for unwanted items will help improve recycling and reuse rates.

  • Don’t bag your recycling! Place it loose in your yellow-lid recycling bin instead. Recycling in plastic bags cannot be recycled and will end up in landfill.
  • Make sure food packaging, bottles and jars are empty before recycling them. No need to wash.
  • Our recycling is transported from the Bega Valley to a Material Recovery Facility, where it is separated into streams for recycling into new products. Watch the video to see how a MRF works
  • Information about Waste and Recycling Centres, including opening hours, locations and fees and charges can be on our Waste and Recycling Centres web page
  • Need to up or downsize your current bins or add an extra one? Find out how to do that on our Change the size or number of your bins web page.
  • For items not listed, visit Recycling Near You or call Council on 02 6499 2222.

Search for individual items or type Red, Yellow or FOGO to see what items belong in that bin.

Category key:

  • Red = Red-lid landfill bin
  • Yellow = Yellow-lid recycling bin
  • FOGO = Green-lid FOGO bin
  • WRC = Waste and Recycling Centre
  • HCC = Household Chemical CleanOut
  • CRC = Community Recycling Centre, Merimbula
  • CWF = Central Waste Facility, Wolumla
