Drop off your household problem waste for free.
Not all household waste can be put in your kerbside bins. Many materials can be reused and recycled if processed correctly. Recycling helps our environment because it saves water, energy and natural resources.
Located at Merimbula Waste & Recycling Centre, our Community Recycling Centre aims to make it easy for shire residents to safely and conveniently dispose of problem wastes like paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, motor and cooking oils, car and household batteries, fluorescent tubes and globes and smoke detectors.
The service is FREE to householders and only household quantities will be accepted. 20kg or 20L maximum container size.
Please transport your materials carefully..
Dangerous goods and items other than those listed will not be accepted.
This project is a NSW EPA Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy. Visit www.epa.nsw.gov.au
A free disposal service for problem household waste is hitting the road in the Bega Valley, travelling between waste transfer stations in Eden, Wallagoot and Bermagui.
Check the table below to see when the mobile recycling centre will be stopping at a transfer station near you.
You can bring along your old batteries, paint, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, cooking oils and fluorescent globes and tubes, and we’ll do the rest.
When the trailer is full of problem waste, we take it to the main CRC in Merimbula for sorting and processing.
If you have problem waste you need to dispose of but can’t wait for the mobile CRC, the drop-off centre at the Merimbula Waste and Recycling Centre is open during normal hours.

An easy way to recycle your household problem waste at your local library
Introducing our Community Recycling Stations – a FREE, convenient and simple way to keep valuable resources out of landfill.
It’s now even easier to dispose of your small problem household waste! You can find a Community Recycling Station (CRS) at your local library.
Each Community Recycling Station accepts the following problem waste items FREE for recycling:
Where can I find a Community Recycling Station?
Community Recycling Stations can be found at Council’s four Library locations, and can be accessed during library opening hours.
What is a ‘household quantity’?
In this case only small quantities are accepted at the CRS per person per visit, for example a handful or two of alkaline batteries, a couple of smoke detectors and printer cartridges, or a few mobile phones and accessory items. This is to make sure the units remain safe and operational for everyone.
If you have larger quantities of items you want to dispose of in one visit, you should visit the primary Community Recycling Centre at Merimbula Waste and Recycling Centre or the Mobile Community Recycling Centre, which visits Bermagui, Wallagoot and Eden Waste and Recycling Centres on a scheduled basis throughout the year. Quantities up to 20kg or 20L per item are accepted there per household.
Can businesses use the Community Recycling Station?
Community members and households are welcome to use the CRS for the disposal of accepted items, but larger volumes of waste generated by businesses or schools cannot be accepted at the CRS. Businesses should contact a waste disposal service directly or visit BusinessRecycling.
How are the resources from the CRSs recycled?
Where can I take other problem waste items like gas bottles and paint?
