FOGO Bin

Learn all about FOGO and what can and cannot go in your green FOGO bin.

The FOGO service takes food scraps and garden waste added to the green-lidded FOGO bin and professionally recycles it into compost at our commercial composting facility in Merimbula.

Here in the Bega Valley, we are lucky to have had a FOGO service since 2018 to recycle our food and garden organics into tonnes of compost for our residents and businesses.

Why do we FOGO?

Food waste is a big problem in landfill, creating the harmful greenhouse gas methane as it breaks down over time and filling up our limited landfill space. Plus, it’s a waste of useful resources! Putting your food scraps and garden waste in the FOGO bin is great for our community and the environment.

Every bit counts The FOGO bin takes ALL your food scraps, including fish, dairy, meat, and bones as well as your garden waste.

Keep it clean Make sure you keep plastics out of the green-lidded bin. Keep your caddy clean by freezing smelly scraps, washing your bin regularly and using certified compostable caddy liners, paper towel or newspaper.

Visit our Caddies and Bags page for more tips on using your FOGO caddy – you can purchase extra caddies and certified compostable bags from Council Waste and Recycling Centres, Zingel Place customer service in Bega or your local library.

FOGO bins are collected weekly if you are on a collection route. Visit this page to get reminders about when your FOGO bin is collected.
