Rates Payment dates

Rates are calculated from 1 July to 30 June each year and broken down into four instalments:

You can pay your rates notice in two ways:

  • Option 1: one lump sum on, or before, 31 August
  • Option 2: four equal instalments

If you choose to pay in four instalments, the date for each instalment is as follows:

  • Instalment 1: 31 August
  • Instalment 2: 30 November
  • Instalment 3: 28 February
  • Instalment 4: 31 May.

Note: Interest is charged on any overdue amount.


How to pay?

First, make sure you have your property assessment number, water reference number or debtor/invoice number with you as you will need this to pay.  You can find this on your most recent notice or invoice.

Pay your rates or water notice online

Contact your financial institution to make this payment from your cheque or savings account, see the payment section on your most recent notice/invoice for details.

Visit our Customer Service centre at Zingel Place, Bega to make a payment by either cash, cheque, money order, debit card or credit card.

Centrepay is a voluntary bill-paying service which is free for Centrelink customers. Use Centrepay to arrange regular deductions from your Centrelink payment. You can start or change a deduction at any time. The easiest way to do it is through your Centrelink account online in myGov.

Call 131816 and make a credit card payments through Australia Post Billpay using the Billpay code: 2030.

Take your rate notice, water bill or invoice to any Post Office to make a payment. Cheque, cash, EFTPOS and credit card are accepted.


 


Overdue Rates, Water or Debtor Account

When you pay your rates or water it is essential that we receive your payments by the due dates, as shown on the notice.

Bega Valley Shire Council charges interest on late payments in accordance with Section 566 of the Local Government Act, 1993.  Interest is calculated daily on overdue rates and charges at the maximum rate announced by the Minister for Local Government. Interest will continue to accrue on overdue amounts.
