The Bega Valley Shire Council will increase the annual issue of free waste disposal vouchers from one to two per year.
To provide incentive towards proper waste disposal, the Council will issue a second waste disposal voucher with the third quarter rates notice each year.
Council recently received communication from the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW requesting a second waste disposal voucher to assist in minimising waste burning and illegal dumping.
The increase will provide the community free disposal of two cubic metres of garden waste or one cubic metre of general waste per voucher.
Waste Services Manager, Toby Browne, says the benefit of the additional waste voucher provides a means of assisting residents to prepare their properties for bushfires.
“We also recognise a lot of remote villages have the inconvenience and added cost of disposing some waste, and this extra voucher helps compensate for that.
“Two vouchers per annum should almost completely offset the costs associated with self-haul waste disposal for most households within the Shire,” he said.
