A southerly swell forecasted to bring dangerous surf conditions to the Far South Coast has resulted in the temporary closure of Tathra and Merimbula wharves this afternoon.
Dangerous surf conditions are expected to ease on Saturday.
South easterly winds between 20 and 25 knots are forecast from the NSW/VIC border to Batemans Bay.
Conditions will be hazardous for coastal activities including swimming, surfing, and fishing from exposed areas such as rocky shores and wharves.
Bega Valley Shire Council will continue to monitor local conditions, and the two wharves will be closed until conditions ease.
The Locavore café on Tathra wharf will remain open during this time, as will The Wharf restaurant near the Merimbula wharf.
