There are currently eighteen primary schools and four high schools, with an additional mixture of private and public schools.

The schools are supported by four libraries, one each in Bega, Bermagui, Eden and Merimbula, all operated by the Council.

The University of Wollongong operates a branch campus in Bega and offers courses in the faculties of Arts, Commerce, Education, Health & Behavioural Sciences and Business.
The campus has a first-class library, computer laboratory and excellent teaching rooms connected to the main campus in Wollongong.

There is also a TAFE Illawara campus in Bega which offers a number of vocational courses targeted at school leavers and all those requiring trade skills training.
The TAFE campus also offers courses in hospitality, business services, engineering, information technology, arts, media and rural studies.

About 38.4 percent of the residents have either a bachelor degree, advanced diploma or vocational training.
