Fire Damaged Vegetation Removal

Trees are an important part of the landscape that we all love. While many trees across the Bega Valley have been impacted by fire, most will recover in time.

There are some trees that have been extensively damaged by recent bushfires and require removal.

The process to remove hazardous, bushfire-damaged trees.

  • There is no approval required for the removal of hazardous vegetation adjacent to dwellings that were lost to bushfire or access roads and driveways to these properties. Removal of these trees are covered by the NSW Government’s bushfire clean-up process, please register online at www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/nsw-bushfire-clean-register-now
     
  • The below table clarifies the requirements for removal of hazardous bushfire damaged vegetation from properties within the bushfire impact area of Bega Valley Shire, where dwellings remain. At this stage there is no public funding available to cover the cost of the removal of trees in these areas or the deposit of green waste at Council’s transfer stations.
     
  • Approval from Council is not required for the removal of hazardous bushfire-affected trees, where they present a risk to assets such as a dwelling, shed, fencing or access road. Large scale removal of fire-impacted native vegetation does require approval.  For clarification, contact Council’s Development Hub on 6499 2209.
     
  • Local Land Services in Bega is responsible for vegetation removal approval in rural areas. In general terms approval is not required for the removal of hazardous, bushfire damaged native vegetation that may impact dwellings, sheds or farm infrastructure including boundary fences, for more information visit www.lls.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0008/873359/Managing-native-vegetation-after-a-bushfire-emergency.pdf. Large scale clearing of native vegetation does require approval.  For any clarification please contact Local Land Service’s Bega Office on 6491 7816. 
     
  • If you are unsure about whether bushfire damaged vegetation on your property is safe, please contact a local arborist.
     
  • Council will be responsible for assessing and removing dangerous trees from roads, parks and other Council managed facilities.
     
  • Team Rubicon is available to assist with hazardous tree removal on private land. People seeking assistance with hazardous, bushfire damaged vegetation can register with Team Rubicon through Council’s Recovery centre on 6499 2345.
