Your Council has had a busy 2015! It’s been a year of striking a balance between planning for the future and getting projects up and running that the community can enjoy and benefit from right now.
Behind getting this balance just right is a lot of work, not only from us here at Council, but from the community as well, who are represented in our committees and through correspondence with Councillors.
This means that key to every dollar we invest in the Shire is the need to provide the best facilities and services possible, with new growth, new jobs and prosperity driving every decision made for and on behalf of the community.
If you would like to see Council’s many projects and achievements this year, we have summarised them nicely in a short video clip at the end of this message.
The list of projects are too many to list on this page, but a special mention must be made of your Council being independently classified as financially sustainable and fit for the future.
A sound financial base is critical for stable government, and I am proud of the hard work and long hours put in by all involved in giving us a forward looking and progressive Council.
But right now, as we head into the Christmas break, it’s probably a good time for everyone who has worked hard throughout the year, from the strong backbone of small business owners, to our wonderful community volunteers and everyone in between, to find a little time for a well-earned rest.
Progress is never sustainable when relentless, so even if you are a tourist operator gearing up for the busy time, or serving the community as an emergency services employee, find some time if you can to enjoy a relaxing Christmas and New Year.
Of course, Christmas is not celebrated by everyone in the Shire, for religious, cultural, or social reasons, but through respecting our neighbours and friends, and helping when we can, we celebrate something much bigger, which is of course our diversity and unique character as people of the Bega Valley Shire.
From your Councillors and Council staff I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Please drive safe if you are travelling, and most of all, get out there with the throng of visitors and enjoy this wonderful place we all call home.
