Council to host information session for potential election candidates
MEDIA RELEASE - People interested in representing our community as a Councillor for the Bega Valley Shire are invited to attend an information session at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre on Saturday 3 July.

People interested in representing our community as a Councillor for the Bega Valley Shire are invited to attend an information session at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre on Saturday 3 July.
The session, running from 1pm to 5pm, will include presentations on the role and responsibilities of a Local Government Councillor, as well as how to access the NSW Electoral Commission requirements for nominating.
It will also feature a range of guest speakers and a Q&A session, followed by breakout time during which potential candidates will be able to speak to presenters directly.
Council’s General Manager, Leanne Barnes, said this is great opportunity to find out what it means to be a Councillor.
“If you are committed to serving our community and have considered nominating as a candidate for the 2021 Local Government Elections, this session is for you.
“Our speakers have a wealth of knowledge and experience about being a Councillor and can answer any questions you have about work-life balance, juggling family and personal commitments, and the impact you can have as a Councillor.”
Guest speakers for the session (pictured right) are:
- Stan Kondilios, Partner, Hall & Wilcox lawyers – Code of Conduct for Councillors
- Cr Rowena Abbey from Yass Valley – Women in Local Government
- Sharon Tapscott, former Bega Valley Shire Councillor and Mayor – Experience of being a Councillor and Mayor
- Iliada Bolton, Director Business and Governance, Bega Valley Shire Council – Overview of the role of a Councillor.
