MEDIA RELEASE 2021 - Council is excited to launch TOWARDS 2042, a consultation project that will help shape the future of the Bega Valley Shire.

Council is excited to launch Towards 2042, a consultation project that will help shape the future of the Bega Valley Shire.
Through the Towards 2042 project, Council will seek important feedback from the community on the main ideas and priorities for our local government area and document these in the next Community Strategic Plan.
Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick said he looked forward to hearing from the community on this important project.
“This is a great opportunity to share your ideas and influence our future,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.
“It’s your chance to envisage what you, your friends, family and the wider community will need to grow and thrive over the next 20 years.”
Towards 2042 community consultation will commence with a range of activities across the shire, including a survey which can be completed online at www.begavalley.nsw.gov.au/towards-2042-have-your-say
“I encourage everyone to get involved and have their say. There will be several opportunities for people to easily share their thoughts, including surveys, pop ups at local markets, and for our younger residents, creative drawing kits,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.
“We all have aspirations for a better future. Towards 2042 allows us to consider what we love about where we live, what we’d like our future to look like, and how we will get there. Together, we can document a future vision that reflects our unique local area and lifestyle.”
The Towards 2042 consultation process will seek input from the community on some key questions, focusing on where we are now, where we want to be in the future, how we will get there, and how we will know if we’ve been successful.
Council has a custodial role in initiating and preparing the Community Strategic Plan, but it is a community plan. Many partners, such as state agencies and community groups, will be responsible for its implementation. The Community Strategic Plan ensures the whole community is working towards a shared vision for a better future.
The Towards 2042 consultation will be open until 31 July 2021.
