Clubs deliver community space for Eden
More than 80 NSW clubs, businesses and organisations have come together to raise funds for the Eden community after making it through a difficult year of bushfires, floods and COVID-19 restrictions.
Bega Valley Shire Deputy Mayor, Liz Seckold and General Manager, Leanne Barnes receive a $170,000 cheque for the construction of the Barclay Street multi-function community space.

More than 80 NSW clubs, businesses and organisations have come together to raise funds for the Eden community after making it through a difficult year of bushfires, floods and COVID-19 restrictions.
Club executives and sponsors met in Eden yesterday to hand over a cheque for $170,000 to help Council with the redevelopment of a sports and recreation precinct in Barclay Street.
Bega Valley Shire Council Mayor, Russell Fitzpatrick said the generous donation showed the willingness to help impacted communities was still strong.
“It’s nearly a year since the devastating Border Fire ravaged villages and localities south of Eden, and it’s with heartfelt thanks that we receive this act of kindness,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.
“It’s been a trying time for the Eden community and surrounds, with the Border Fire stripping the township of its much-needed summer visitors and COVID-19 halting cruise ship passenger arrivals for the time being.
“Something we have come to realise, with fires and flood taking their toll over the past few years, is that recovery and relief happens best when the community has an opportunity to meet and share experiences.
“This cheque for $170,000 will go towards the major upgrade of an important community space where the people of Eden and surrounds can come together.
“The Barclay Street pavilion upgrade will deliver a multi-function community space to encourage sports, events and recreational pursuits to keep Eden on the path to recovery.”
Part of a broader major project to revitalise Eden’s sports and recreation precinct, the new pavilion will be one of many improvements to the area.
“This donation will be spent along with a $653,000 Department of Regional NSW grant, and additional state and federal funding to deliver improved sports facilities, a play area, a skate park, a free-throw basketball court, foot bridges and extra parking,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.
“Last summer this location became a hub for many visitors and locals, particularly those with caravans that had nowhere else to go, so it’s great to be in a position to now further develop the area.
“This is a big project made even better with a donation raised collectively by generous organisations wanting to help through their Unite and Raise fund for Australian bushfire relief.
“On behalf of the Eden community and Council, I thank all who have given to this wonderful project.”
