Bega Valley Shire Council recognizes the importance and significance of supporting volunteers, non-profit organisations, community groups and education providers in delivering programs and projects that have clear community benefit and align with Councils waste minimisation strategies.
The Program aims to encourage and assist community involvement in the management of waste minimisation and education for the benefit of the whole region.
The Bega Valley Shire Council has allocated $35,000 per annum for the Community Waste Assistance Grants program to support Schools and Community deliver waste related projects that support the themes of the Bega Valley Shire Council’s Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy 2018-2028:
Grants are available from the following four categories:
Year 1 – August 2019 - CLOSED
Year 2 – August 2020 - CLOSED
Year 3 – August 2021 - CLOSED
The ‘Let’s get it sorted’ program is available to all schools within the Bega Valley Shire region to implement waste related activities and/or education projects.
This program will be offered over a three year period in conjunction with Bournda Environmental Education Centre for projects with one or more of the following outcomes:

Available to community groups, charitable and not for profit organisations within the Bega Valley Shire region for waste related projects to implement waste activity and/or education projects with one or more of the following outcomes:
The Waste Wise Events grant supports environmental sustainability in the Bega Valley Shire. It is part of our commitment to support our community in our ongoing efforts to reduce what goes into landfill.
Thousands of tonnes of waste are generated at NSW events each year, much of which could be recycled or composted instead of being added to landfill, or better yet, avoided altogether.
This grant aims to help events reduce what goes to landfill by providing funds towards waste-reducing products or services at the event. Examples of this may include:
To assist with preparing your application for a Waste Wise Event grant see the Waste Wise Event Toolkit. The toolkit provides practical solutions for event organisers and stall holders in the Bega Valley to be more Waste Wise, because we can have just as much fun without the mess!
Please note: The Festivals and Events Grants are not available for the 2021-22 financial year.
Small waste grants aim to support organisations that are actively assisting in the clean-up of public areas by waiving or reimbursing waste fees. This grant provides up to $500 to cover fees associated with:
