Bega Valley Shire Council welcomes the almost $16.8 million investment in our bridges announced by Member for Bega, Andrew Constance yesterday.

The funding, which has been allocated under the Fixing Country Bridges Program, will be used to replace a number of ageing timber bridges across the shire with structures that are safer and more resilient to natural disasters.

Bega Valley Shire Mayor, Cr Russell Fitzpatrick said the ongoing integrity of the shire’s bridges is vital to ensure ongoing access to health services, education and employment.

“This extremely welcome investment from the NSW Government will go a long way to ensuring our bridges are safe and more resilient to natural disasters, especially for those in our more remote areas,” Cr Fitzpatrick said.

“Importantly, replacing these bridges will greatly reduce the ongoing maintenance burden on our ratepayers into the future.

“As a Council we remain committed to providing the best possible infrastructure across the district and strong support like this from the NSW Government certainly assists us in reaching that goal.”
