Mayor Britten presented awards at the 2015 NSW Volunteer of the Year ceremony in Cooma on Tuesday 1 September.
The Centre of Volunteering held this year’s NSW Volunteer of the Year Award Ceremony at Cooma’s Ex-Services Club.
Nominees included Eden Marine High School students for the ‘Volunteer Team Excellence’ award for their support of Bupa Aged Care in Eden.
Volunteering in NSW provides 235 million work hours each year, contributing to $5 billion to the State’s economy.
Council alone has 364 volunteers involved in a range of projects and activities across the Shire.
Cr Michael Britten presented numerous awards at the event saying it was a wonderful opportunity to recognise the valuable contribution of volunteers.
“By volunteering, people actively make a difference to their community in a way that is interesting, personally satisfying, productive and fun.”
“The role that Eden Marine High School students are playing to support residents of Bupa Aged Care is impressive. Congratulations to the team and their teachers for their outstanding contribution to their local community,” he said.
The Award program is sponsored by the NSW Government, ClubsNSW and Bupa Aged Care.
