Bega Valley Shire Council advises works have resumed on Market Street in Merimbula, following essential retaining wall slope remediation and drainage upgrades between the Merimbula boardwalk and Short Street.

Local contractors are currently working on relocating the street lighting in front of the worksite to improve pedestrian access along the path. This is expected to be completed within the next week.

Contractors will then begin construction of a block wall garden which is expected to take four weeks to complete. Pavers will then be installed at the site.

This stage of works is expected to be completed by the Christmas school holidays.

Vegetation will then be planted behind the garden edge to aesthetically improve the retaining wall structure.

Changed traffic conditions remain in place for Market Street, Short Street, Cabarita Place and Monaro Street.

The footpath running adjacent to properties on Market Street remains closed to pedestrians south of the Short Street intersection to north of Merimbula boardwalk carpark. The footpath on the lake side remains open for pedestrians.

Council thanks the community for their patience while these important works are undertaken.
