Profile

Liz Seckold has served on the Bega Valley Shire Council for more than 13 years, mostly as Deputy Mayor. She was re-elected as Deputy Mayor on 11 January 2022.

Liz was born in England during World War II, with both parents actively serving. The family emigrated to Australia in 1955.

Despite social expectations that girls should be restricted to home duties, Liz entered Sydney University on a scholarship. While at university, she joined the Women’s Liberation.

After graduating as a teacher, Liz spent the next 43 years in mostly executive positions including head teacher of welfare at Bega High School. Her dedication was recognised with the NSW Excellence Service in Public Education and Training Award in 2004 and the NSW Honour Roll for Rural Women-Hidden Treasures in 2014.

Liz’s community interests lie in disaster recovery, youth, the arts, First Nation’s concerns, the environment, suicide prevention, employment, social justice, affordable housing and general wellbeing.
