Recognition by our peers and industry sectors
Over the years, Bega Valley Shire Council has been recognised many times for our industry and local government sector leadership in communication, community reporting, organics recycling innovation & education and environmental leadership & sustainability to name just a few.
This ongoing recognition continues to inspire us as we strive to maintain the sustained innovation and service levels needed to serve the communities of the Bega Valley with care.
Two great examples of our achievements are:
Example | 2019 Australian Organic Recycling Association (AORA) Awards - local government initiative in organics collection, processing and marketing
The FOGOmentary is a documentary about the Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) bin collection service produced by Council for schools as an education resource to support waste and recycling education programs.
Council produced the video with funding from the NSW government’s ‘Waste Less Recycle More’ program which aims to encourage local communities to think differently about waste avoidance, recycling, littering and illegal dumping.

Example | 2018 Cities Power Partnership Awards - Top honours for knowledge sharing
The South East NSW Councils buddy group is made up of Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla, Wingecarribee, Bega Valley and Kiama Councils, who together have collaborated to develop a strong, regional climate response for South-Eastern New South Wales.
The 2018 Cities Power Partnership Awards celebrated outstanding work from local governments in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable transport and community advocacy, as well as individual climate champion awards.
The buddy group was described by the Cities Power Partnership as local heroes and quiet achievers, working at the climate frontline. The group was recognised for the work it was doing locally to transform Australia’s energy landscape by taking advantage of emerging opportunities and potential joint projects - Media Release - National recognition for climate partnership (26 October 2018)
