Club Grants is a statewide initiative that provides financial support for projects and services that contribute to the wellbeing of local communities.
Category 1 Club Grants are available to the community and not for profit organisations for projects that meet the funding priorities and comply with grant program guidelines.
Background
Clubs that earn over $1 million annually in gaming machine revenue provide funding for community projects and services, and in turn receive dollar-for-dollar gaming tax deductions. Each year through Club Grants, clubs across NSW provide support to tens of thousands of local community organisations, sporting groups, and charities that make a difference in their local area. The scheme was introduced in 1998 by the NSW Government and allows clubs to claim a tax deduction of up to 1.5% on gaming machine revenue over $1 million for monies spent on community support.
The funding is provided by five registered clubs across the Shire. They are the Bermagui Country Club, Club Bega, Club Sapphire Merimbula, Eden Fishermen’s Recreation Club and the Merimbula RSL.

Funding Priorities
- Projects that provide support for sections of the community facing disadvantage including:
- Aboriginal People
- Children & Families
- Community Wellbeing
- Men
- Older People
- People from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds
- People with a Disability
- Volunteering
- Women
- Young People
- Projects that have limited funding opportunities.
- Projects that strengthen and coordinate the work of not for profit community organisations in the shire.
- Projects that target problem gambling treatment, support and prevention activities.
- Projects that meet the above criteria and haven't received funding in prior rounds.
How to apply for funding
Applicants for Club Grants Category 1 funding should follow these steps:
- Determine your eligibility. Carefully read the Club Grants Guidelines to determine whether your project is eligible for Category 1 funding. If you have received funding from previous Clubs Grant rounds, you must report your spending in the ClubGRANTS portal to be eligible. If you are a new applicant, take note of the reporting obligations for funding recipients.
- Determine your project suitability. Applicants are strongly advised to pay particular attention to how their project aligns with the outcomes of the Bega Valley Shire Council’s Community Strategic Plan and assists people in the local community. Review successful projects from previous funding rounds (past funded projects are listed at the bottom of this page). Or contact the Grants Administration Officer to discuss your projects suitability for this funding program.
- Apply online (application form will become available when the grant round opens). When completing the application form, address all criteria as fully as possible. The information requested is necessary to assess your application. Missing or unclear information may affect your eligibility for funding or lead to delays in processing your application.
