Council is working with consultants PSA Consulting to develop a draft Active Transport Strategy. Active transport is all about enabling our community to move throughout the shire by bike, foot or microbility devices by providing better links for these transportation modes.
In 2012 Council received a grant for the preparation of a shire wide Bike Plan. This plan was adopted in 2014, the purpose of the plan was to demonstrate responsive management and planning of cycling assets and affiliated infrastructure.
The Bike Plan was used to communicate the direction of cycling in the Shire. However, the routes and priorities outlined in the previous work do not consider other modes of active transport such as walking or micro-mobility solutions or recent changes in strategic planning for the region or reflect the vision of the Council.
This Active Transport Strategy and action plan will supersede the Bike Plan and represent our new vision for walking, cycling and microbility across the Shire.
The Final Active Transport Strategy (Final Report) will be presented to Council for adoption as a key planning document that will shape the Council’s strategic active transport agenda for the shire for the next 10 years. The Strategy will set out the vision and the high-level direction and will be complemented by a prioritised action plan with identified funding streams.
Council has secured funding under the Get NSW Active 2022/23 stream and engaged subject matter experts PSA consulting to deliver this strategy in line with the funding deed.
The Strategy will be a long-term plan that sets the vision, objectives, and priorities for investment in active transport framework within the LGA. This will involve establishing a range of infrastructure such as:
