Let’s remain vigilant

It is important businesses are prepared to welcome back customers in a COVID safe way and that new compliance obligations are understood.

Updated roadmap settings at 80% fully vaccinated.

The Service NSW app can now show proof of vaccination when checking in using the NSW Government QR code.

New signage and posters to support industry and businesses with implementing compliance measures including proof of vaccination, COVID Safe behaviours, QR code check-ins and capacity limits.

Updated COVID-19 Safety Plans for industry and businesses.

Updated support and guidance for businesses and workplaces to support businesses adjusting to reopening settings.

Hardship Review Panel for businesses - A Hardship Review Panel will be established by the NSW Government to assess businesses that do not qualify for COVID-19 business support, on a case-by-case basis.

Key resources, financial support and updated rulings

Small business fees and rebates: One-off claim to offset NSW and local government fees and charges due or paid from 1 March 2021. Available until 30 June 2022.

JobSaver: Backdated fortnightly payments to help maintain staff. Applications close 18 October.

Micro business grant: Fortnightly payment for businesses with a turnover between $30,000-$75,000. Applications close 18 October.

Creative arts relief package: financial support to performing arts venues, producers and promoters impacted by cancellation or postponement of performances resulting from the NSW Government COVID-19 Public Health Orders from 26 June 2021. Funding will cover performances impacted from 26 June to 30 September 2021.

Accommodation providers: support payments available late September 2021 for eligible tourism accommodation providers that have lost business during the school holiday period. Assistance will be based on the number of cancelled room nights.

Banking industry support: banks are offering a support package, available to all small businesses and home loan customers significantly impacted by current lockdowns or recovery from recent lockdowns, irrespective of location or industry.

Telco support: if you're experiencing financial difficulty, contact your telco provider for help. Telcos have made commitments about providing hardship assistance. They also have obligations under the Telecommunications Consumer Protection Code.

Tourism: there are a number of grants and support available to help Australian tourism businesses.

Commercial leases: amendments provide greater protections to impacted tenants by reinstating National Cabinet’s Commercial Leasing Code of Conduct. Property owners must negotiate rent relief agreements with eligible tenants in financial distress due to the COVID-19 public health orders.

Alcohol service industry: from 29 July to 31 October, alcohol service venues facing COVID-19 restrictions can repackage duty-paid kegged beer for takeaway sale in sealed containers (such as growlers) without needing an excise manufacturer licence or pay further excise duty.

Mental health and wellbeing: looking after your business, workers and income is a big concern for many, but mental health during these challenging times is also important. There is support available for businesses who need it.

Businesses impacted by COVID-19 can call the NSW Business Helpline on 13 28 46.

COVID-19 vaccinations: workplace rights and obligations

While the Australian Government’s policy is that receiving a vaccination is free and voluntary, it aims to have as many Australians vaccinated as possible.

With Australia's vaccine rollout continuing and the increasing availability of COVID-19 vaccinations, employers and employees are encouraged to work together to find solutions that suit their individual needs and workplaces. A collaborative approach in the workplace that includes discussing, planning and facilitating COVID-19 vaccinations is an important part of Australia’s vaccine rollout.
