Drum Muster pulls up at Bermagui tip
Farmers and users of chemicals in the agricultural and veterinary industries now have a place to safely dispose of empty drums in the shire’s north.

Farmers and users of chemicals in the agricultural and veterinary industries now have a place to safely dispose of empty drums in the shire’s north.
A partnership with Council and agricultural recycling experts, DrumMUSTER recently resulted in the installation of a container collection service at the Bermagui Waste Transfer Station.
Council’s Waste Services Manager, Alan Gundrill said the latest installation adds to other DrumMUSTER facilities at the Merimbula and Bemboka Waste Transfer Stations.
“This installation is particularly welcome because it replaces the Cobargo facility lost in last year’s Black Summer bushfires,” Mr Gundrill said.
“We’re grateful to DrumMUSTER for providing us with this new collection point and we encourage farmers and veterinary businesses to get behind this free service.
“Empty chemical drums are bulky and represent a health hazard if not disposed of correctly. This service not only keeps chemicals, hard plastics and metals away from landfill, but also gives them a second life.
“Plastic chemical drums are recycled into items like wheelie bins, fence posts and irrigation pipes, meaning fewer new resources are used for the production of these everyday items.
“It’s important customers pre-rinse containers to AgSafe Effective Drum Rinsing Standards to prevent residues from entering waterways and drains.
“To date, the program has collected more than 37 million chemical containers in Australia, which demonstrates how councils, chemical users and the recycling industry are working together to turn a problem into a commodity.”
