Bega Valley Shire Council encourages feedback on proposed amendments to the Bega Valley Local Environmental Plan 2013, to support economic development and employment opportunities throughout the shire.

The planning proposal aims to implement the recommendations of the Bega Valley Shire Commercial Land Strategy 2040, to boost employment opportunities and encourage more vibrant town centres

“The proposed changes are aimed at strengthening our economy by focusing future commercial and retail activity in existing town centres, and creating opportunities for diversification and new uses,” Council’s Manager of Planning and Sustainability, Keith Tull said.

“We are proposing additions to land use that includes more boutique food and drink premises, hotel and motel accommodation, rural supplies, open gardens and other small-scale tourism points of interest.

“The planning proposal also includes several zoning changes in Bega, Eden, Merimbula and Tathra to help achieve these objectives.”

Comments on the planning proposal are welcome in writing or via the Have Your Say webpage from today (16 March) to Sunday 18 April.
