Bega Valley Shire Council is carrying out a review of the Merimbula Airport Master Plan and is seeking your feedback.
Council’s Manager Project Development, Daniel Djikic said a master plan was formally adopted in 2013 and has directed the planning for the airport, triggering infrastructure additions such as a water main and fire service upgrade, and terminal extension.
“While the current master plan does not expire until 2033, a review is needed,” Mr Djikic said.
“Throughout completion of various works, more has been learnt about the site’s opportunities and constraints.
“Aviation legislation has also changed, the local economy has evolved, and environmental considerations have changed.”
Council is seeking input from a broad range of airport users and other stakeholders across the community, government and business. This review will deliver a master plan to direct the Merimbula Airport planning from now until 2043.
“Much of the existing plan remains current as the site is highly constrained and airports have specific requirements. However, some aspects require refinement, and the review focuses on those,” Mr Djikic said.
“We want to find out more about why and how the community uses the airport, to inform the best way the airport can meet the community’s needs while balancing costs and funding.”
This project is fully funded by the Regional NSW Business Case and Strategy Development Fund.
Visit Council’s Have Your Say webpage to find out more and complete the survey before 11.45pm on Sunday 30 April.
