A southerly swell forecasted to bring dangerous surf conditions to the Far South Coast has resulted in the temporary closure of Tathra and Merimbula wharves today.
Dangerous surf conditions are expected to ease on Saturday.
Conditions will be hazardous for coastal activities including swimming, surfing and fishing from exposed areas such as rocky shores and wharves.
South-westerly winds are expected to reach up to 40 knots on Friday and 20-30 knots on Saturday.
Bega Valley Shire Council will continue to monitor local conditions, and the two wharves will be closed until conditions ease.
The Locavore café on Tathra wharf will remain open during this time, as will The Wharf restaurant near the Merimbula wharf.
