The proposed fees and charges for the Eden Preschool and Bandara Preschool program (covering January to June 2018) have been placed on public exhibition following a resolution of Council last week.

This amended fee structure comes on the back of the NSW Department of Education introducing the Start Strong preschool funding model from 2017, which has resulted in preschools across the state needing to rethink their operations.

To fulfil objectives in line with the Start Strong criteria, both Council-managed facilities will be the subject of operational changes from 2018. The proposed fees and charges amendments align with these.

The fees and charges for the Sapphire Mobile Preschool and Council’s Long Day Care programs remain unchanged.

Council’s Manager for Children, Family and Ageing, Kristina Brenner, said that the biggest changes to the previously adopted fee structure came in the removal of a number of enrolment categories that aren’t supported under Start Strong.

Start Strong aims to ensure that all children have access to 600 hours (15 hours per week) of preschool education in the year before school and as such the options available to families need to meet the criteria,” Ms Brenner said.

“In light of this our amended structure is based around two-day enrolments and therefore a number of previously listed fees and charges have been removed.

“It is important that as we transition into these new arrangements, our families and children feel supported and understand that we will assist them in any way we can.

“Information sessions were held at both Bandara and Eden Preschool last month around the Start Strong model, what the impact would be on these services moving forward and fees and charges. Re-enrolling families at Eden Preschool and Bandara also received letters recently outlining the changes more generally, such as the proposed $2 meal surcharge at Bandara.

“Posters with exhibition details and opportunities for comment are on display at the respective centres and we encourage anyone with any questions or concerns to make contact,” Ms Brenner said.

The proposed fees and charges will remain on exhibition for community comment until 9 November and can be viewed at www.begavalley.nsw.gov.au/haveyoursay

Submissions regarding the amended fees are invited and should be addressed to the General Manager using one of the following methods:
