Funds available = $2,500

Bega Valley Shire Council is offering five (5) scholarships for young womenbetween 18 and 25 of up to $500 each.

The scholarship aims to encourage young women in the Bega Valley to achieve their goals and to support their valuable contribution to our communities.

Applications can relate to different areas that meet the scholarship aim. For example, arts and culture, environment, business, community, health, sport.

Applications can be for individual initiatives as well as those that benefit others in the Bega Valley and surrounds. The outcome will be announced for International Women's Day (IWD).

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The theme for International Women’s day in 2021 is Let's all choose to challenge (#ChooseToChallenge), calling people to action to help forge a better more inclusive, gender equal world. International Women's Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. Bega Valley Shire Council received grant funding for IWD for several years until the NSW Government closed this funding steam in 2011.

Overall grant program objectives

IWD scholarship is offered to encourage young women to reach for their goals, whatever they may be and to recognise and celebrate the valuable contribution that young women make in our community.

Grant specific criteria/information

To be eligible young women must:

  • be living in the Bega Valley Shire
  • be aged between 18 to 25 years
  • demonstrates ambition/motivation to achieve their goal
  • actively contribute to the local community and/or advocate on behalf of a community/health/social justice or other issue at a local, regional, state or national level
  • for further education, please see Further Education Scholarships as an alternative.
