More than 1000 people enjoyed the South Coast Field Days this past weekend as Bega Valley Shire Council celebrated its first smoke free event.
Council’s Environmental Health Coordinator, Greg O’Donnell, said he was very pleased that the Shire’s first smoke free event attracted such high numbers.
The South Coast Field Days was a perfect opportunity to launch a lifestyle of healthy living, fun and learning.
The weekend featured workshops, stalls and guest speakers including former ABC and SBS presenter Indira Naidoo.
Mr O’Donnell said the weekend was a success for a healthier community adopting cleaner habits.
“The last few years have shown a decrease in cigarette smoking across Australia according to the ABS, and it’s apparent that our community has embraced a smoke free environment!
“We know that second hand smoke causes lung cancer. With this past weekend being a smoke free event, we’ve supported a safe and healthy public space for families to enjoy!” He said.
