Children of all ages are invited to enter the Bega Valley Shire Library Book Week competition which is now open for entries. The library is running the competition to celebrate Children’s Book Week from 22-26 August.

Programs and Partnerships Officer, Scott Baker said the competition is themed around the short-listed books for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year awards.

“Our competition has different activities for different age groups and we can’t wait to see what the children create for their entries,” he said.

“The winning entry in each category will receive a book voucher – a perfect prize for Book Week and all entries will be displayed at the nearest library during Book Week.”

Entries must be received by Friday 12 August and can be dropped off at your nearest library.

The theme of Book Week 2016 is ‘Australia! Story Country’ and entries will be accepted in the following categories; Preschool, Kindergarten, Years 1 & 2, Years 3 &4, Years 5 & 6, and High School.

More information about the competition is available from the library’s website at or in school newsletters.

The Book of the Year is awarded by the Children’s Book Council of Australia across five categories; older readers, younger readers, early childhood, picture book and information book.

The awards aim to promote quality literature for young Australians and to encourage a wide range of Australian writers and illustrators of children’s books.
