Katchencarry Creek Bridge Replacement

Replacement of the old single lane timber bridge over Katchencarry Creek with a new dual-lane concrete bridge.

A water main crossing Katchencarry Creek bridge

Background and Purpose

This project will replace the timber bridge over Katchencarry creek on Upper Brogo Road.

The existing single-lane timber bridge will be replaced with a new 18.5m span dual lane concrete InQuik bridge.

The new bridge will be constructed by Council’s own Bridge Team who have recently completed installing a smaller bridge using the same methods on Wandella Road.

The new concrete bridge will be more resilient to natural disasters such as fire and flooding, ensuring Upper Brogo Road can be reopened sooner following major weather events.

It will also improve traffic flow and will ease future maintenance burden.

Project update

As part of the Katchencarry Creek Bridge Replacement project, the Water and Sewer team is nearing completion of works to relocate an existing watermain currently situated in the creek, with around 95% of works on this part of the project now complete.

The works include securing a new 250mm ductile pipe to the bridge using specially designed, custom-made brackets. This allows the existing main to be removed from the creek and reduces the risk of damage to the pipe during flood events.

With a 100-year design life, the new pipe will deliver reliable service well into the future. The upgrade is funded through Council’s Water Fund and forms an important part of supplying treated water from Brogo Water Treatment Plant to the local community.

Funding

The project is fully funded by the Transport for NSW Fixing Country Bridges Program, with the estimated project cost being $1.8 million.
