Code of Meeting Practice

Council is seeking community feedback regarding adoption of its Code of Meeting Practice.

Bega Valley Shire Council has updated its Code of Meeting practice to include the mandatory provisions in the model code provided by the Office of Local Government.

Councils must adopt a Code of Meeting Practice within 12 months of the local government elections.  If Councils wish to continue to allow Councillors to attend meetings by audio-visual link, they must adopt relevant clauses by 30 June 2022.  Council has included a supplementary clause to assist the community in lodging Petitions.

Have Your Say

The Code of Meeting Practice provides clear guidelines for Council and the community on how Council and committee meetings should be conducted.  The document also aligns with Council’s Code of Conduct.

You can read the report presented to Council on 20 April 2022 which explains the background.

At the conclusion of the public exhibition period, a further report will be provided to Council if submissions are received that would change the intent of the provisions. If no submissions are received, the draft policy will be finalised and published on the Council website.
