Flood and Sea Level Rise

Have your say on draft Flood and Sea Level Rise Policy and related amendment to Bega Valley Development Control Plan 2013.

Council has resolved to exhibit a draft policy Flood and Sea Level Rise to implement recommendations from Council’s adopted Flood Studies and Floodplain Risk Management Studies and Plans. The draft policy supports Council and the community to respond to emerging flood and sea level rise risks which relate to future development. The draft policy does not change any of the existing flood mapping in Council’s adopted flood studies and plans.

The draft policy is accompanied by amendments to the Bega Valley Development Control Plan 2013 (BVDCP 2013) which aim to:

improve the development assessment process
improve guidance about how flood risks can be addressed by new development
inform planning of Council’s infrastructure
update BVDCP 2013 to reflect the new policy
bring BVDCP 2013 into line with current NSW Government policies.

Comments about the draft policy and accompanying BVDCP 2013 amendments are welcome during the exhibition period which runs from 14 March 2024 to 28 April 2024.

Submissions must include your full name and address, contact details, signature and political donations or gifts disclosure and be addressed to: The General Manager, Bega Valley Shire Council, PO Box 492, Bega NSW 2550, or by email to: council@begavalley.nsw.gov.au.

Under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009, details of your submission, including your name and address will be publicly available on request. You can request that your name and address not be disclosed by writing “objection in confidence” on your submission, however Council may still be obliged to release these details. Submissions that do not contain the author’s name and address may not be considered as Council will be unable to validate their authenticity.
