Bega Valley Shire Council advises of upcoming footpath renewal works on Auckland Street, Bega.

The works span between the traffic lights at the intersection with Carp Street, to Gowings Lane.

Council’s Works and Assets Manager, Gary Louie said the works will address safety concerns and enhance accessibility for pedestrians.

“These works are being undertaken in response to issues caused by root ingress from existing street trees creating multiple trip hazards, posing a risk to pedestrian safety and impacting accessibility,” said Mr Louie.

“In addition to surface-level deterioration, such as significant cracking and lifting of pavers, the tree roots pose a risk to subsurface infrastructure. This includes assets belonging to Telstra, Essential Energy, NBN and Council’s water, sewer and stormwater assets.

“In line with our responsibility to public safety and infrastructure protection, the existing trees will be removed and replaced with a more suitable species.”

The new trees will be planted in raised planters to protect underground services while supporting a more resilient and aesthetic streetscape.

We appreciate the community's patience and cooperation during these necessary improvements.

We are committed to minimising disruptions to local businesses and pedestrians throughout the project and will keep the community updated as the works progress.
