Bega Valley Shire Council is looking for a qualified and experienced member of the community to become a volunteer independent external member of its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.

Bega Valley Shire Council is looking for a qualified and experienced member of the community to become a volunteer independent external member of its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.

Council’s Property and Legal Manager, Rickee Marshall said the committee meets four times a year and oversees and monitors the effectiveness of Council in carrying out its obligations for responsible financial management, good corporate governance, maintaining an effective system of internal control, risk management and fostering an ethical environment.

“The person we are looking for needs to have a strong financial management and/or audit background and an understanding of accounting and auditing standards in a public sector environment,” Ms Marshall said.

“Other desirable skills include legal, governance, risk management, information and communications technology and business management.”

Criteria to be considered when assessing applications are:

  • Relevant professional qualifications
  • Relevant professional knowledge and expertise
  • Understanding of / experience in the public sector / local government
  • Understanding of the role of corporate governance in organisations
  • Current / prior experience on similar committees in the local government sector.
