Hannah was nominated for Young Citizen of the Year because of her commitment towards serving her community through academia, sports, religion, the arts and public safety. Keeping herself busy, she has just returned from an international service overseas participating in Philippines Experience with Catholic Sisters in Pontevedra. She fundraised for this trip with a raffle, sausage sizzles and a Parish garage sale.

Hannah has been a Surf Lifesaver Patrol Member and the Same Wave Volunteer for the Pambula Surf Life Saving Club since 2013, and was a Water Safety Member in 2013 and 2014. Currently, as of 2011, she is a Youth Leaders Network Member for the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn and has been involved with the St Peter’s Church Ministry since 2012 in various roles including music, church reading and volunteering. Hannah also provides support for St Joseph’s Catholic Church as a Youth Group Leader.

Acting is a passion of hers, having been involved with a number of acting and drama workshops. Most recently she attended the prestigious NIDA Acting 101 Workshops, as well as local improvisation and song writing sessions in the Shire. As a sportswoman, Hannah has played soccer for the Merimbula Grasshoppers for 2013 and 2014 and 7 Aside Summer Soccer in 2014 and 2015.

Academically she has received awards in Studies of Religion, English, Drama, Commerce, History as well as a number of community awards for Lifesaving, Rotary Club of Bega, Australian Defence Force, Sapphire Coast Tennis and Lions Youth of the Year to name a few. An actor, Hannah has featured in Lumen Christi Productions of The Wizard of Oz, Knock on Wood, the lead in Legally Blonde and featured in the 2015 Inaugural Saltwater Festival. She has even been seen at the Cobargo Folk Festival and St Joseph Parish Sequentenary.

Last November Hannah dressed up as a super hero to support the Ronald McDonald House and helped raise $600 with fellow students for the charity. Additionally, she helped raise money for Ricky’s Place in Bega by participating in a sleep out to raise money and awareness to homelessness in the Bega Valley Shire.

It is clear that if her next 17 years of life are anything like the first, Hannah Fernandez will continue to be a source of inspiration and dedication for all those around her.
