Bega Valley Shire Council has placed its revised Community Engagement Policy on public exhibition and welcomes community feedback on the document.

Director Business and Governance, Iliada Bolton said the draft policy now incorporates changes and references from the 2024-28 Draft Community Engagement Strategy, which will replace the existing Community Engagement Strategy endorsed by Council on 27 November 2019.

“This draft policy includes updated information and references on its scope and purpose, policy statement, responsibilities and other policies relating to the 2024-28 Draft Community Engagement Strategy,” Ms Bolton said.

“Community engagement is a vital component of Council’s decision-making process and ensures residents' voices are heard and considered.

“By actively involving the community, Council can make more informed and inclusive decisions that reflect the community's needs and aspirations.

“This enhances transparency and accountability and strengthens the connection between Council and the community.”

If submissions are received during the public exhibition period, they will be presented back to Council with staff recommendations before the final policy is adopted.

The draft Community Engagement Policy is available on Council’s website.

Feedback on the policy can be submitted up to 3 February 2025 via email, post or an online form.
