It’s an incredible honour to serve you for a second term as your Councillor. I believe that local government should work for the people — with transparency, accountability, and a deep understanding of our community.
Over the past term, I’ve supported individuals, families, and groups across the Bega Valley. And while I’ve seen the strength and resilience of our community, I’ve also seen just recognised the urgent need for change. Last year’s community satisfaction survey confirms what many of us already know — we can and must do better.
My background is in managing change. I came out of school at the dawn of the tech revolution — when personal computers, mobile phones, and wireless internet were transforming our lives. After earning certification in ISO9001 Quality Business Process Standards, I advised worldwide companies on implementing practical and sustainable change.
What I learned then still applies today: effective change brings real improvement but requires leadership, courage, and a willingness to listen. That’s why I ran for Council — to bring these principles into public service.
Since being elected, I’ve prioritised attending community meetings, openings, events, and grassroots gatherings. Listening to your stories and concerns, reminds me daily why I put my hand up to serve. The message is consistent: Council must do better.
With the rising cost of living, people are rightly frustrated about rate increases. We need to make Council more affordable by building realistic budgets and living within our means. But affordability isn’t the only issue. We must restore common sense, integrity, and accountability to Council decisions. That means admitting when things aren’t to plan and committing to do better.
Residents have expressed they want genuine consultation — not tokenism. I’ve been working to reform how Council reviews its decisions, ensuring. we are responsible for fair, independent hearings of your concerns.
There’s still much work to be done but my door is always open. I’m here to listen, represent, and to act in the best interests of the Bega Valley. My voting record reflects the views I hear from you — and the values I’ve outlined here.
Let’s work together to make it happen. Please feel free to reach out to me at DPorter@begavalley.nsw.gov.au
