Hats on for National Simultaneous Storytime

Bega Valley Shire Library invites children of all ages to grab their favourite hat and come along to the National Simultaneous Storytime on Wednesday 25 May.
At precisely 11am our Shire libraries will join other libraries and organisations across Australia in reading simultaneously the same picture book, I Got This Hat by Jol and Kate Temple.
Programs and Partnerships Officer, Scott Baker said that the story is a colourful and fun look at the types of hats people wear in different countries and for different jobs.
“We’d love children, parents and carers to get into the hat theme and come along on the day wearing their favourite hat for the occasion,” he said.
“Children enjoy dressing up and this is the perfect event to hunt out an unusual or wacky hat and show it off!”
National Simultaneous Storytime will start locally from 10.30am with other stories about hats. The main story will be read at 11am sharp followed by a craft. The event will be held at all Shire libraries in Bermagui, Bega and Eden as well as at the Merimbula library portal.
Libraries Team Leader, Samantha Fenton said that Bermagui library will open especially for the event.
“We aim to promote the value of reading and literacy to our communities and we didn’t want Bermagui to miss out on this significant national event,” she said.
Jol and Kate Temple are an Australian author and illustrator team and in addition to I Got This Hat, they have written five children’s books including Parrot Carrot, Mike I Don’t Like and a new series of junior fiction called Jimmy Cook Discovers the Third Grade, which is due out in May.
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event organised by the Australian Library and Information Association. It aims to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books and the event is now in its 16th successful year.
