MEDIA RELEASE 2021 - Bega Valley Shire Library is recognising the important role speech pathologists play in children's language and literacy development through two Speechie Talks this month.
15 November 2021
Bega Valley Shire Library is recognising the important role speech pathologists play in children’s language and literacy development through two Speechie Talks this month.
“Speech pathologists work with children and families to help develop literacy skills and support a healthy transition into reading and learning,” Council’s Customer Experience Librarian, Linda Albertson said.
“Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) recently announced its Book of the Year Awards, so we will have local speech pathologists read from these at our Speechie Talks in Bega and Eden.”
Claire Price from South Coast Speech Pathology will give a talk at Bega Library on Friday 19 November from 10.30am to 11.30am.
Elizabeth Stewart (pictured) from Blue Waters Speech Pathology will give a talk at Eden Library on Friday 26 November from 10.30am to 11.30am.
“We invite parents, grandparents, carers and their children aged up to three years old to relax in a friendly, safe space; enjoy listening to SPA’s award-winning stories and find out how to build children’s language and literacy skills,” Ms Albertson said.
“Claire will give a talk about developmental milestones; Elizabeth will talk about great books for young children and what you can do and enjoy with your baby. There will also be time for questions.
“Our libraries are baby and toddler friendly and you are welcome to bring along toys for them to play with while they are there.”
COVID-safe rules will apply at each event and in alignment with the NSW Government’s roadmap and health advice, participants over 16 years old will need to be fully vaccinated or have a medical exemption to access the library.
