Upgrade and renewal of Ford Park Pavilion in Merimbula.
The current pavilion building servicing the Ford Park covered outdoor courts and surrounding area is old, not compliant and in need of renewal.
Subject to funding, the proposed new Ford Park Multi-Use Pavilion Building will be a much-valued improvement to the Ford Park recreation area and the obvious second stage project to the new covered multi use courts that were completed in 2021.
An upgrade will establish a sports hub and multiuse pavilion for sporting codes and community events. The proposed renewal of the existing building will considerably enhance the facilities for increased use by sporting and community groups locally, and provide opportunities for local and regional events.
The proposed building will replace the existing aging and non-BCA compliant building and become the central hub on site. It will solve provision, usability, and compliance issues with the current facilities, particularly in terms of female friendly changing facilities and accessibility.
This project also proposes to replace the ageing and high-maintenance-cost public amenities (toilets) in the Ford Park area and incorporate them into the pavilion structure, providing further efficiencies moving into the future and upgrading these in line with the strategy for public toilets moving forward.
Upgraded facilities will be able to cater not only for local competition and training for the Merimbula Basketball and Netball clubs, but also provide facilities to host sport development pathways, regional coaching development and sports tourism events such as the popular, unique and established “Merimbula Classic” multi day ocean sports event hosted by Merimbula Sailboard Club. It will also serve beach and ocean sports including Merimbula Sailboard Club, Sapphire Coast Board Riders Club, and storage for the annual Surf Lifesaving summer patrol.
The proposed project scope will include:
Council has funded the initial Consultation/Design/Documentation stage of this project. Once this initial design has been finalised, Council will be attempting to source grant funding to assist in the construction stage and further development of this site.
