MEDIA RELEASE 2022 - Bega Valley Shire Councillors will be reviewing all Council policies over the next 12 months, in line with the requirements of the Local Government Act 1993.
21 January 2022
Bega Valley Shire Councillors will be reviewing all Council policies over the next 12 months, in line with the requirements of the Local Government Act 1993.
Acting CEO, Anthony McMahon said while this is a procedural requirement under the Local Government Act, it’s a good opportunity to make sure Council policies provide clear information about what the community can expect in their interactions with Council and the way decisions are made.
“Council has more than 60 policies covering the full breadth of our operations, from Access to Information to Water and Sewerage Services,” Mr McMahon said.
“With the new Council sworn in, we can begin the process of reviewing our policies and seeking community feedback on any proposed changes.”
After each policy is reviewed by Councillors, it will be placed on public exhibition for 28 days to give the community an opportunity to provide feedback.
If submissions are received during the public exhibition period, they will be presented to Council with staff recommendations before the final policy is adopted.
The first policy ready for public exhibition is the Payment of Expenses and Provision of Facilities to Councillors.
Policies will be available for review from the Have Your Say section on the Council website.
All of Council’s currently adopted policies can be viewed on Council’s website at https://bega.pulsesoftware.com/Pulse/Public.aspx?page=publicpolicies
All media enquiries and interview requests are coordinated by Council's Communication and Events team under the adopted Communications Policy. To view this policy, visit Public Policies and search 'communications'.
To submit a media enquiry or to request an interview:
Councillors can be contacted directly for enquiries regarding decisions of the elected Council and non-operational matters. Interviews with the Mayor should be arranged through the Communication and Events team contact details above.
