Bega Valley Shire Council invites the Eden and surrounding communities to a planting day at Aslings Beach, Eden on Wednesday 15 December from 4pm to 6pm.

Council’s Coastal Management Officer, Rachel Duczynski said healthy dunes are essential for coastline protection and play an important role in beach resilience.

“The effective management of our dune systems is vital to changing sea levels, more intense storm events and changes in wave activity,” Ms Duczynski said.

“Aslings Beach is particularly vulnerable to erosion with assets including the road directly behind the beach limiting dune width.

“Weed control has already been undertaken at the beach and the planting day will help reinstate native vegetation and strengthen the dune system.

“Weed control and revegetation is also underway at Pambula Beach, Merimbula Main Beach, Tathra Beach, Horseshoe Bay, Beares Beach and Camel Rock.

“We encourage the communities of Eden and surrounds to come along and get involved to help restore their local beach.

“Students from Eden Marine High School will be joining us that afternoon, which we very much welcome.”

Participants don’t need to register; just come along with enclosed shoes and gloves. Everyone is to meet at the northern end of Aslings Beach Road at 4pm.

The Aslings Beach planting day is supported with $40,000 from the NSW Government’s Coastal and Estuary Grants Program.
