People interested in the future of FOGO recycling in the Bega Valley Shire are invited to attend a community information session on a proposed new processing facility planned near Wolumla.

The information session will provide a project update at the Central Waste Facility (CWF), including the results of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) prepared by industry experts, Talis Consultants.

Project Manager, Kimberley Rushbrook said attendees will learn about key aspects such as noise, odour, traffic, stormwater and leachate management, fire safety, heritage and biodiversity.

“Our CWF management team and project consultants will attend the session to answer any questions and address any concerns regarding the proposed facility,” Ms Rushbrook said.

“The proposed facility is classified as a Regionally Significant Project and a comprehensive EIS must be drafted and evaluated as part of the planning process.

"These documents are intentionally thorough, so having all the project personnel in one place provides a valuable opportunity for the community to gain a deeper understanding.

“To this point we have engaged organics processing leaders, SOILCO to design, construct, operate and maintain a 15,000-tonne per annum facility, with approvals sought for a potential 30,000-tonne capacity to accommodate future growth.

“Following the information session, our next step is to submit the Development Application and EIS to the NSW Government in October and it will be placed on public exhibition soon after where the community will have an opportunity to provide feedback.”
